Fostering Breastfeeding Equity Through Community Engagement Series

The community engagement series will highlight activities, including webinars and videos, fostering breastfeeding equity between state agencies and community organizations. This series will underline the importance of community engagement, pathways, or courses of action to engage communities. It will challenge participants to understand and recognize their role in fostering breastfeeding equity. Topics will include levels of community engagement, strategies, and systems to enhance community support, efforts to improve the lactation workforce, and sustainability of community breastfeeding centers.

Each of the three webinars will have different objectives.  

Session One: 
Community Engagement and Advancing Breastfeeding Support; Monday, December 6, 2021 at 3-4 PM Eastern 
Attendees will be able to explain the benefits of community support and engagement for breastfeeding. Also, participants will be able to outline how to engage community members and organizations into perinatal quality improvement. Finally, they’ll discuss strategies for approaching community engagement to create and sustain collaborations and partnerships.

Session Two:
 Strategies and Systems to Enhance Community Breastfeeding Support; February 9, 2022 at 3-4 PM Eastern
Attendees will be able to describe an innovation fighting to end racism in maternity care. Also, participants will be able to demonstrate at least one program that is creating an interconnected system to enhance community support.  

Session Three:
Enhancing and Diversifying the Lactation Workforce; April 7, 2022 at 2-3 PM Eastern
Attendees will be able to describe the challenges faced in diversifying the breastfeeding workforce. Also, participants will observe initiatives that are working to enhance the lactation workforce.
