Building a Performance Management System Using the Foundational Public Health Services Framework

ASTHO, in partnership with the Public Health Foundation (PHF), is hosting an informative webinar that will guide participants through the process of using the Foundational Public Health Services (FPHS) framework to develop a performance management (PM) system in public health agencies.

Attendees will explore the key principles of performance management and quality improvement, along with actionable steps for designing and implementing a performance management system tailored to their health department’s needs.

Participants can expect:

  • An introduction to the FPHS framework and its relevance in public health;
  • Core principles of performance management in public health;
  • The relationship between performance management and quality improvement;
  • The eight-step process for building a performance management system using the FPHS framework;
  • Strategies for aligning health department performance outcomes with FPHS;
  • Definitions of the roles and responsibilities within the system;
  • Strategies for setting meaningful goals and objectives;
  • Strategies for designing and refining performance measures;
  • Strategies for monitoring and reporting progress.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Apply a performance management system model based on quality improvement principles and the FPHS framework to structure a comprehensive performance management system within their health department;
  • Assist program managers in developing practical goals, objectives, and performance measures aligned with their health department’s priority services;
  • Engage key stakeholders to ensure the successful development and implementation of the performance management system.
